RED LEATHER THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS

GHOSTS

by Henrik Ibsen

Directed by Jack Aldisert

This site-specific production of GHOSTS follows the story of a woman who was married to an awful, alcoholic, philandering man for years, but covered up his true character and maintained his good reputation so as not to crush her son's image of the man. Now her husband is dead and her son has come home, and she finds herself in a hopeless dilemma over whether or not to reveal the truth. It is a story about hypocrisy, cowardice, and the corrupting power of lies.

ROLE BREAKDOWN

HELEN: A woman in her late forties. Her politics are radical, but she doesn't talk about them. Intelligent and driven, she is devoted to her son, OSWALD, and loves him unconditionally. She is hiding a major secret.

PASTOR MANDERS: A man in his late forties. He cares deeply about morality, duty, and kindness, but he is often forced into hypocrisy by his even deeper feelings about his own public reputation.

JACOB: A man in his forties. A carpenter. He is a hard worker, when he's sober, and loves his daughter JEANNIE , though he doesn't often treat her like it. He frequently tries to trick Pastor MANDERS into helping him out in one way or another.

JEANNIE: A woman in her late teens, early twenties. HELEN's maid. She has taught herself French and aspires to climb the socio-economic ladder via education. She feels indebted to HELEN, who has raised her like a daughter.

The role of Oswald has already been cast.
