Romeo + Juliet

R+J profile.jpg

Once upon a time, in a hot, grungy, xenophobic city, a group of teenagers were shot and killed for no reason at all.

Their tragedy became the spark of resistance that spurred an entire generation to turn away from violence and march towards a future of healing, justice, and radical compassion.
The world knows these young people as the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. But they have other names as well: Mercutio, Tybalt, Benvolio, Paris, Romeo and Juliet.
This summer, join Red Leather Theatre Company as we retell Shakespeare’s classic story of star-crossed love and slaughtered innocence against the gun-riddled backdrop of Gen Z’s America.

Performed in Tacoma, WA in July of 2019 at Stadium High School.
